The year was 1960. Isadore (Issy) Sharp- a young architect and builder- joined forces with his father Max (a contractor) to build a hotel. It opened in 1961, and over the course of the decade, three more would come to pass. More than 50 years later, the Four Seasons has become a mark of excellence, sophistication, and luxury the world over. Though the company is Canadian based, one can find their resorts all over from Cairo, to Bangkok, to Budapest, to New York, and even Scottsdale.

The Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North sets it’s home in the high Sonoran desert surrounded by breathtaking views of Camelback Mountain, saguaro cacti, and the Monument boulder. There is so much to do and see in and around the Four Seasons you’ll want to come again and again. One of the highlights of this resort is the Troon North Golf Courses. Both the Pinnacle and Monument courses provide some of the most incredible golf in Arizona.  Talk to the concierge, and you could find yourself on a hike on Camelback Mountain, exploring the red rocks of Sedona in a Jeep or Hummer tour, or downtown perusing the Old Town Scottsdale art walk. The fitness center is open 24 hours so no matter when you feel a workout is in order, you can take advantage of the treadmills and weight machines. Classes ranging from Strength and Core to Zumba are offered as well. Yoga is available either indoors, or outdoors on the lawn. There are a couple of tennis courts, and of course a pool. The pool is heated so it’s available to use all year long. During the hottest months, you might choose to keep cool in one of the cabanas or take advantage of the complimentary frozen fruit and chilled towels the resort offers. There’s a whirlpool for the adults, and a children’s pool giving them their own place to splash around.

If you are traveling with little ones, and would like some time to yourself, there is a Kids For All Seasons (KFAS) day camp on site. So whether you’d like to drop them off for an hour, or the entire day, the caring staff will watch children ages 5-12 years old. Fun, entertaining, and educational, the kids are kept busy with many activities from pool time, to movies during lunch, to arts and crafts, air hockey, ping pong, and rooms for Wii or Xbox 360. Kids under 5 are allowed with their parents. Babysitting services are available for the smallest ones, and amenities such as child sized bathrobes, and a plush welcoming toy with your child’s name make their stay every bit as enjoyable as yours.

While the kids play at KFAS, a favorite for the parents is to golf or head to the spa. The spa offers a range of services from facials, to salon manicures, and massages. One of the more unique massages is performed with warmed golf balls to ease the muscles after a challenging game. The body is stretched out, and aching backs are given the treatment which is similar to hot stone massages. There are body treatments specialized for both men and women, and of course couples therapy. Local ingredients are used in the treatments such as honey, jojoba oil, and prickly pear. Desert clay is used in a popular mask. If your younger ones would like to enjoy the spa as well, there is a sweet sixteen facial for acne prone skin, and even a Bubble Yummy haircut and manicure.

During the day and evening, there is a wide selection of places to eat. The most casual is the Saguaro Blossom. It’s airy outdoor seating by the pool offers a selection of light poolside fare, cocktails and snacks. If you’re in the mood for something a bit more filling, Proof would be the place to go. With a fun feel of the old west, it serves American food. Pefect for happy hour, or an easy dinner with the kids. To dine in style, Talavera may be more your speed. Offering wine tastings, and views of the desert valley, Talavera is a modern take on the traditional steakhouse. Southwestern décor, and even a horse trough used as a fire pit complete the ambiance of this classy restaurant. Adjacent to Talavera is the Onyx Bar and Lounge. Small plates, handcrafted cocktails, beer and wine can be enjoyed at the bar top made from a single mesquite tree that has been sanded smooth. The walls inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright resemble desert sandstone. Of course, room service in your casita is also available 24 hours a day.

At the end of a relaxing or action packed day of your choice, one of the casitas or suites is waiting there for you to take your repose. Casitas and suites come complete with cozy fireplaces, and patios with small private plunge pools. You can choose from a one, two, or three bedroom suite with different views to suit any taste. Amenities include down pillows and duvets, CD and DVD players, complimentary newspaper, and L’Occitane bath products among others. Hypoallergenic pillows and wheelchair accessible rooms are also available. So have a cup of coffee on your private patio, have a relaxing soak in your tub, take a swim in your own pool, and curl up in the soft down duvet all in the privacy of your own suite. Guests are able to come visit given the ample room and seating.

Many areas of the resort are also available for private dining, business meetings, presentations, groups, and gorgeous weddings. The knowledgeable and creative concierge will cater to your every whim, and the Four Seasons is available to help you with all aspects of your wedding from the engagement party, to the honeymoon. Wedding planners are available every step of the way.

Come, stay awhile, and after only five minutes, you’ll see why the Four Seasons has earned their reputation and prestige in the hospitality realm. There’s simply nothing else like it in the world, and it will be a fantastic experience you’ll be talking about for years to come.
