One thing the Scottsdale area is known for is it’s professional golf courses. The McDowell Mountain Golf Club is no exception when it comes to a Scottsdale golf course. Come play 18 holes of challenging fun while taking in the beautiful views of the McDowell Mountains, and the perfectly manicured grass and desert landscaping. Formerly known as Sanctuary Golf, the course and grounds have undergone a complete overhaul and are better than you’ve ever seen! The project was overseen by the original architect Randy Heckenkemper, and involved adding additional waste bunkers, widening many of the corridors, adding additional teeing areas and more so that those of a lesser skill level have more options.

Built on the western slope of McDowell Mountain, PGA Tour great Phil Mickelson and “Coach” Steve Loy acquired the operating rights to the club and have turned it into something great. One of the fine features offered here is the Rick Smith Golf Academy. Rick Smith has won many awards, and is regarded as one of the PGA Tour’s best sounding boards for swing advice. A few different programs are offered at this Academy named by Golf Magazine as one of the ‘Top 25 Golf Schools in America.’ You can book a private lesson with Rick Smith himself, or attend one of the workshops. Private lessons with one of the other instructors or weekly group clinics are also offered. All of the instructors are well qualified. There are even Junior Programs for the little golfer in your family. Ages 5 to 14 are able to participate in the instructional and fun five week sessions or you can book a private junior lesson as well.

When you’re done playing and taking in the views, head over to the brand new clubhouse and the Mesquite Grill. The Mesquite Grill is casual elegance and serves up American and Southwest favorites. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it’s always a good time to taste Chef Mark Hamilton’s creations. Try some of the mouthwatering entrees like the award winning Mesquite’s Bourbon Glazed Pork Chops or the High Plains Pasta. Salads and sandwiches are available like the Coyote Cobb or the Baja Blackened Mahi-Mahi Tacos. For the sweet tooth, there are desserts like the Banana Chocolate Rum Balls or Vanilla Créme Brulee. There’s even a kid’s menu. The best part is that you don’t have to play a round of golf to enjoy this restaurant and wine bistro. Just stop in seven days a week from 11 a.m. during the week or 6 a.m. on weekends til 9 p.m.

The long awaited Clubhouse is now open, and waiting to provide the perfect backdrop for your next meeting or celebration. You can rent the clubhouse for almost any occasion from a graduation party, to a corporate meeting, to your wedding. Over 200 guests can enjoy the clubhouse, and the ceremony lawn is perfect for an outdoor Arizona wedding. The picturesque lawn and mountains will make for the most beautiful of pictures that you’ll treasure for a lifetime. Come and join the Golf Club for the most unforgettable rounds, meals, and memories you’ll always be able to hold.
