Several decades ago, Desmond Muirhead designed two golf courses in Scottsdale where before there was only cattle land. In 1972, both the Palm and the Pine course opened to great acclaim. Open 365 days a year, and set in a residential neighborhood, any day provides a relaxing, quiet game with majestic views of Camelback Mountain. There are many reasons to enjoy the McCormick Ranch Golf Club whether you’re a local, or just passing through.
Both the award winning Palm and Pine course offer mature landscaping with water hazards and bunkering. In fact, the ninth hole of the Palm Course was chosen by Golf Illustrated as “One of the USA’s top 18 water holes.” If you’re not up for a full course, both 7,000 yard runs offer four sets of tees allowing you to tailor your outing. These courses are known for hosting tournaments such as the National Junior College Golf Championship, the Arizona Open Professional Golf Tournament, and more. The courses are good for any skill level from amateur to professional. Groups of any size are welcome to come play, and the course can be reserved for up to 600 players at a time!
If you have youngsters interested in the game, the McCormick Ranch Golf Club Junior Golf Academy is the answer for ages six to seventeen. Two week courses are run each summer, and rules, etiquette, swing techniques, and course strategy are all taught. Each child receives individualized attention, as well as reduced green fees and range rates. If you’re an avid golfer and like to hit the greens once a week or more, memberships are offered. There are many benefits with your membership including complimentary green fees, range balls, and locker/ storage facilities. There’s a tournament day for members only, and discounts are offered at the Pro Shop. The Pro Shop offers everything you need whether you forgot something at home, or just want a new item. Shoe and club rental is available, or you can find lots of souvenirs, balls, hats, clothing, or whatever you need here.
Everyone knows that golfing makes you work up an appetite. That’s why McCormick Ranch has thoughtfully provided a refreshment/hot dog stand at the turn so that you can grab a quick snack. If you’re looking for a real meal, the restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week. There are lots of tasty choices. Breakfast can be light like fruit and oatmeal or more hearty like pancakes, eggs, and bacon. Lunch choices range from salad, to sandwiches and wraps, or even omelets for lunch! If you’d like to meet up for a few drinks, the lounge is the perfect choice. Open until 7 p.m. or when the last golfers leave, anytime is good to kick back a few cold ones with your friends while swapping stories.
If you have an upcoming special event whether corporate or personal, check with the golf club about renting a space. There are many spaces indoor like the restaurant lounge. The outdoor pavilion offers great views of Camelback Mountain, and is perfect for wedding receptions. Wedding ceremonies are also able to be performed on the lawn. The two courses offer beautifully landscaped surroundings, and ample places for pictures like a small stone bridge over the water, and many palm and pine trees. Chairs, tables, and catering are all available so you can just sit back and let the magic of the day take over. If you’re only interested in the golfing, check the website as special deals are sometimes available. So come a few steps away from the ordinary, and enjoy Scottsdale’s wonderful weather with some traditional Parkland golf.
