Sit down inside the cozy Veneto Trattoria and you’re likely to feel as if you’ve suddenly been whisked away to Venice. The food, atmosphere, and elegant family feel are just what Northern Italy is known for. The owners Susan and Roberto Rossi should know. They opened the trattoria in 1997 in the Hilton Village location in Scottsdale to make it as true to the quiet and charming neighborhoods of those in Roberto’s home town of Treviso, Veneto, Italy as possible.

The food you order there is prepared by Chef Massino Brunelli from Venice, and Cesare Alferez, Sous Chef, who is also Italian. Did we also mention that the restaurant manager Remo Gerra is Italian as well? Massino and Remo have been with Veneto Trattoria since it opened. Chances are, your server will also be Italian. This makes understanding some of the native dishes like baccala mantecato (Venetian style cod) or fegato alla veneziana (calf liver with golden onions) easy! All of the staff shares their love and knowledge of food and wine.

All of the food is authentic to the Northern Italian region of Venice. This makes it lighter and more healthful than some other Italian dishes you may be used to. Just because it’s lighter doesn’t mean quality or taste has been scrimped on. Most of the pasta is handmade, and the olive oil is flown in within 12 hours of it’s bottling. Sogno Toscano or “Tuscan Dream” is produced in Italy’s famed Tuscan region. If you wish, bottles of their signature Veneto Trattoria Super Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil are available for sale in the restaurant. All of the oil is made from hand-picked olives from organic only trees. This allows it to bear the USDA Certified Organic seal. The trattoria is closed on Sundays. Lunch is available Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and has plenty of tempting choices from Insalata Mediterranea, to pastas, to house made Paninis. There are daily specials as well as is traditional in Italian trattorias. Dinner runs on the same days from 4:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and is sure to suit any taste with its selections of seafood, steak, chicken, pasta, and lamb. The dessert menu offers traditional choices like Tiramisu made in unexpected ways. The Tiramisu al Cioccolato is topped with a dark chocolate and cappuccino sauce. While others like the Semifreddo al Pistacchio (semi-frozen meringue infused with roasted pistachio and drizzled with vanilla sauce) are surprising and sound delicious! The wine list has ample selections offering both domestic and Italian wine choices by the glass or bottle. For lunch or dinner you may choose a table inside, or out on the patio to dine alfresco.

Veneto Trattoria is available for private events and parties. From Valentine’s Day which requires reservations and has a special menu, to New Year’s Eve, Christmas Eve, and everything in between. The restaurant has also served Passover dinners since their opening and while the dishes aren’t certified kosher, they are prepared in a style honoring the Jews of ancient Italy. No matter your ancestry, you’re bound to feel like honored family here. If you come often, you will have the experience of being recognized, seated at your favorite table, and your server will remember your favorite drink. This is the true atmosphere of an authentic northern Italian trattoria.
