Casa Hermosa opened in 1936 when the west’s most western town was still wild. Famous artist Lon Megargee lived and worked there at the time, and ran a mostly legal business. However, when the sheriff would come unannounced to check in on the late night gambling sessions, Lon’s guests need not worry. He had thoughtfully created underground tunnels that ran from the rooms to the horse stables so guests could disappear into the desert if need be. Seventy years, several owners, a fire, and a $2 million restoration later, The Hermosa Inn Scottsdale is a beautiful 34 room, two acre luxury boutique at the foot of Camelback Mountain.

The award winning Inn draws countless visitors each year. One of the main draws is Lon’s restaurant. Named after the original founder, Lon’s embraces garden to plate techniques. The artful American cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Jeremy Pacheco is highly prized. As a winner of “Vegas Uncorked Bon Appetit Award” in 2008, an Iron Chef-themed competition involving master chefs of Las Vegas, it’s no surprise that Lon’s is frequently in the Scottsdale Culinary Festival. As well as Executive Chef, Jeremy is also the main caretaker of the garden. Just outside the kitchen is a one acre organic garden where the chefs grow most of the produce found on the menu and garnishing the drinks in the bar. Strawberries, chilies, arugula, heirloom tomatoes, and peppermint are just a few of the plants you can catch your chefs tending to each day. There are also lemon, grapefruit, and orange trees on property that the chefs use in their citrus dishes. Of course, what goes better with a fresh dish than a nice glass or bottle of wine? Lon’s wine vaults have over 500 food wines from all over the world. Lon’s is open to the hotel guests as well as anybody who would like to come for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On the weekends, there are special tasting menus allowing the chefs to be extra creative.

If you’re in the mood for a drink or two, the Last Drop Bar is the place to be. Named after Lon Megargee’s famous painting The Last Drop that still appears on Stetson cowboy hats to this day, you’ll find no shortage of good times here. The grub and drinks are to die for, and each of the five days of the week features a different activity from Mixology Mondays to Beef and Brew Fridays.

When you’re ready to impress a client or host an event that will be talked about for years to come, the Hermosa offers meeting rooms as different and unique from each other as they are from that of any other resort. The most intimate being the Wine Cellar. Beneath the Hacienda, the Wine Cellar comfortably seats 12 people around a heavy square table. The room is cozy and warm with 1890’s Chicago brick, reclaimed beams, and trusses. For a larger, but equally as cozy room, you might choose the Library. Here, limited edition art books are available to be flipped through by the fireplace from the leather chairs, or on the surrounding outside patio. For something much more formal, the Boardroom is perfect. An elegant setting welcomes your party, and the outside patio features a fountain created from an antique horse trough that was part of the original building. The largest room allowing for 70 guests is the Stetson Room. Several of Lon’s original paintings hang on the adobe walls here, and the fireplace and outdoor patio make it no less cozy and warm than the other rooms. The lush landscape of the Inn makes it ideal for a wedding. Wedding ceremonies and receptions are perfect, and private here. You can have your reception at Lon’s, and wow your guests with the amazing food and views. Whether a large or small ceremony, you’re taken care of. Since the Inn has 34 amazing rooms, you’re able to rent out the entire place if you wish, and just have the run of it.

Speaking of rooms, the accommodations at Hermosa are splendid. Wifi is available across the property, and the bathrooms are newly remodeled. Most of the rooms feature fireplaces, secluded patios, and vaulted ceilings. Whether you’re staying in the 800 square foot Grande Casita, or the 450 square foot Rancho, you’ll feel like royalty. Visit the website at http://www.hermosainn.com to see all of the special packages that are offered here. From The Art of Romance to Desert Indulgence, there’s something for everyone. It’s no wonder the logo for the Hermosa Inn states that it is a boutique hideaway. A small piece of heaven in the valley of the sun is just waiting to be discovered by you, and maybe your dog as well. So bring the whole family to this lovely destination and drink in the sun, flowers and libations. Everyone will be talking about the experience for years to come.
